Investigating Luminosity, is an assemblage of silver gelatin prints which simply began as a way to express the artist’s curiosity after finding a small collection of magic lantern slides. Since the initial experimentation began, the project has grown into a way of communicating a personally derived narrative based on the relationship the artist shares with her mother who suffers from a multitude of chronic health issues. Using the basic elements of the darkroom; water, light, and paper the artist creates intimate prints that evoke the sense of deterioration of health.
This series also touches on the interaction between humans and nature and how the two share similar systematic processes. The overall installation is meant to be a visual metaphor for the overwhelming, chaotic nature of the relationship between a patient and their aliment. Investigating Luminosity, is an installation of over eighty prints, each created to engulf the viewer; thus creating an overall experience of investigation and discovery.
